Car of The Month February 2020

George’s 2015 Mustang GT

It's a white 2015 GT with the 50 years appearance package. I feel like the car has almost every option available for that year on it except Recaro seats and the performance package. The performance package was not available with the automatic transmission (more on that later). I was worried about what the S550s would look like during the media build up to the release. However when the cars finally debuted I was very pleasantly surprised with the finished product.
The lines of the new S550 on TV and in the magazines looked much better than I had imagined. Then I found the car to look even better in person. I decided this new car would be right for me with all its new looks and mechanical updates. Especially the promises the new independent rear suspension was handing out in the handling department.
Texas had given me a few lessons about car buying too. After owning a black 2013 S197 GT, which was purchased in June of 2012, the Texas sun helped understand that a lighter color may be a more prudent choice. Also, my commute on Highway 360 in stop and go traffic for an hour each way helped me decide to go with an automatic transmission. As much fun as driving a manual is, riding the clutch for two hours a day was just plain tiring. My wife also appreciates the, um, smoother shifting that occurs during spirited driving.
I purchased this 2015 GT in December of 2014 in Austin after looking for a 50 years appearance car. I really liked the pony corral on the grill with its nod to the original cars while the rest of the vehicle had a completely modern look.
I've added the Ford Racing touring exhaust from Mac Haik to keep the V8 sounding nice and take them up on their discount for MOCA members. Adding summer tires in place of the all-season tires that come with the automatic transmission completely changed the steering and grip of the car for the better.
The car has been a reliable travel companion on many trips around the state for work and for pleasure. It really makes traveling fun. I'm still surprised by the number of people that will come to talk to me about it even though it isn't a classic mustang
